KALSUBAI TREK🚩🚩

If you are looking for the best trekking experience in Maharashtra, the trek to Kalsubai Peak should definitely be on your list. Known as the “Everest of Maharashtra”, Kalsubai stands at an altitude of 1646 meters (5400 ft) and offers breathtaking views of the Sahyadri mountain range.

On 21st February, I experienced one of the most memorable adventures of my life a night trek to Kalsubai Peak, the highest peak in Maharashtra. Trekking through the night, camping under the stars, and witnessing a magical sunrise at the summit made this journey truly unforgettable.

Journey to the Base Village

Our journey started in the morning when we boarded a train on the Central Line heading towards Kasara. The train ride itself was scenic and relaxing, giving us time to mentally prepare for the adventure ahead.

We reached Kasara around 12:30 PM. From the station, we hired a shared taxi to Bari Village, the base village for the Kalsubai trek. The taxi charges around ₹200 per person, and the journey usually takes about 1 to 1.5 hours.

Trek Preparation

Since we had planned to stay overnight at the summit, we carried extra gear with us. Our backpacks were heavy as they included:

  • A tent

  • A portable stove for cooking

  • Food supplies

  • Water bottles

  • Other essential trekking items for two days

Carrying this equipment made the trek more challenging, but it also added to the excitement of the adventure.

The Ascent Begins

Due to the delay in getting a taxi from Kasara, we started our trek around 3 PM. With heavy bags on our shoulders, the climb felt slow and physically demanding. We took several breaks along the way to catch our breath and enjoy the surrounding views of the Sahyadri mountain ranges.

After a steady climb and a few well-needed breaks, we finally reached the summit of Kalsubai around 7 PM.

At the Summit

The first thing we did after reaching the top was take blessings at the sacred Kalsubai Temple, dedicated to Kalsu Aai.

By then, it was completely dark. There were no lights around except the torches in our hands. The wind was freezing, but the atmosphere was magical.

We walked a little further to find a flat spot suitable for pitching our tent. Standing there under a sky full of stars, surrounded by silence and cold mountain winds, was one of the most peaceful moments I have ever experienced.

Camping Under the Stars

Setting up the tent in complete darkness was not easy, but after some time we managed to get it ready.

Later, we cooked simple food using our stove:

  • Maggi noodles

  • Boiled potatoes

There are also small stalls near the summit, but they charge slightly higher prices. However, it is understandable because the locals carry supplies up the mountain every day, which requires a lot of effort.

That night, sitting under the stars in a quiet and peaceful environment, we truly felt connected with nature.

A Beautiful Sunrise

The next morning rewarded us with a breathtaking sunrise view. Watching the sun slowly rise above the Sahyadri mountains was the perfect ending to our adventure.

After resting for some time, we packed our tent and started our descent around 10:30 AM. We reached the base village by 1:00 PM.

From there, we again took a shared taxi for ₹200 per person back to Kasara station.
